Working with Blue
Kwak Hye-young is an abstract ceramic artist who uses blue to ‘record’ the rain in her ceramic works. The artist prepares canvas-like porcelain boards, using cobalt mixed with dark pigments. As the raindrops land and combine, they form rivulets, pools and washes - these movements are all caught by the mixed media and clay. Kwak maintains that the works are created by nature, and she is merely a collaborator who enables but does not interrupt or affect the creation process. Kwak sees this as her meditational practice towards acceptance. The exhibition will include her latest work - a large wall installation that was presented at the European Cultural Centre at Venice Biennale 2022.
