Cho In-sung South Korean, b. 1960

Overview

Cho In-sung is an unique practitioner who deals in and collects antiques from Korea, creates narrative pieces using antique furniture from the Joseon period. When Cho sees a damaged piece of furniture, they look beyond the imperfections and see the timeless beauty. Cho restores its beauty instead of fixing it to its original condition.

For Untold Beauty, Cho created three occasional tables that use the top parts of three different styles of So-ban, a small dining table made and used in the Joseon period to serve individual meals. Tall metal bases have replaced the traditional low wooden bases in Cho's tables to fit the modern lifestyle. The individuality of each So-ban is maintained by constructing and distressing each leg with consideration.
